Malbert N. Lomsdal

Malbert Norman Lomsdal, 95, passed peacefully on January 3, 2012 in Viking Manor Assisted Living, Ulen, MN. Mal was born on March 21, 1916 to Albert and Mabel Lund Lomsdal in Baker, ND. He was one of six children. The family moved to Alberta, Canada and Mal resided there until 1938. He relocated to Ulen-Hitterdal area. He married Lois Knutson in 1941. He then joined the United States Army and served until 1943. Mal and Lois moved back to Ulen and he became the manager of the Ulen Farmers Elevator until 1954. The family then moved to Climax where Mal was the manager of the Climax Grain Elevator for eight years. His wife Lois died on December 1, 1970. Mal married Dolores Murphy on March 21, 1975. Mal was a talented man of many interests. He had an entrepreneur spirit who loved to make deals, whether it was farm equipment, farm land or farm commodities. The work that produced the most pleasure was farming the Wauban farm. He and Dolores retired from farming at age 80 and lived in Hawley for many years. Mal was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making his family everything from grandfather clocks to tables. Mal never met a stranger; he enjoyed talking to people and always had a friendly smile and a humorous story. Mal and Dolores enjoyed many years of traveling in their travel trailer and dancing at the Galaxy. He was a busy, active and productive man who never watched a TV show but liked the Minnesota Twins. His family was his first priority; his greatest love was having his children and grandchildren visit or visiting them. Playing cards, shaking dice, eating lutefisk and lefse and socializing were his best times and memories. Dad was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather; he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His family celebrates his life and will hold in their hearts many memories of Dad and Grandpa. We love you Dad and will miss you forever. Mal is survived by his four children, LaMae Russell Sylvester, Fisher, MN, LaDell Nesvig, Williston, ND, Duane Sharon Lomsdal, Hawley, MN, Vickie Gary Marquardt, Kennewick, WA; two step-children, Dwight Nancy Murphy, Moorhead, MN and Dalphane Robert Williams, Perham, MN; two sisters, Ardell Skiem and Shirley Matula; brother, Douglas Lomsdal; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 29 years, Lois; and his wife of 36 years, Dolores; son-in-law, Sam Nesvig; brothers, Orris Lomsdal and Donald Lomsdal.
