Margaret Elizabeth Woodward

August 14, 1939 — September 29, 2021

Margaret Elizabeth (Moore) Woodward, 82, passed away in the early hours of September 29th, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 14th, 1939, to Robert and Isabelle Moore, Margaret enjoyed a charming small-town Minnesota childhood with her sisters, Ginny and Roberta, in Walker. An inseparable trio, the Moore girls loved their trips up to Ten Mile Lake, especially during the Independence Day celebrations, and spending too much time and money shopping at the Lundrigan’s in town. They remained extremely close throughout their lives.

Margaret married Gary Woodward in 1960 and moved to Moorhead, MN, where she raised her four children. She received a teaching and Master’s degree from Moorhead State College and was West Fargo Public Schools’ friendly elementary school librarian for 26 years, receiving the district’s Teacher of the Year award in 1983. She made many life-long friends in her years there and imbued countless children with a love of reading. She herself was an avid fan of books and would often treat herself to a little McDonald’s picnic with her latest page-turner.

Margaret loved family and had to show up to as many of her grand-kid’s activities as possible. For many years, she spent as much time attending games as an MLB scout would. When she received visitors, she could talk for hours on end about what all the young ones had been getting themselves into. Margaret loved animals, and was a serial cat-mom of Kirby, Socks, Noel, and Casey.

Margaret was funny and irreverent and oftentimes unintentionally so, but also very serious about her faith and her family and friends. She will be sorely missed by all that had the chance in this lifetime to meet her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Isabelle Moore; sisters, Roberta Reese, and Virginia Twetten; and brother-in-law, James Twetten.

Margaret  is survived by her children, Diana (Richard) Johnson of Clitherall, MN, Sandra (Kevin) Christianson of West Fargo, ND, Susan (Craig) Berndt of Littleton, CO, Scott (Karen) Woodward of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren, Cathrine (Shane), Carrie (Jamie), Stephen, Joe (Abbie), Alex (Johanna), Sam, Tom, Jordan, Tyler (Melissa), Michael (Laura), and Robert (Veronica); great-grandchildren, Lina, Henry, Margaret, William, Elin, Jack, James, Charlie, Xander, Remy and Millie; special nephews and niece, Matt, Danny, and Jennifer; and her beloved friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the American Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 3:00 P.M., Monday, October 4, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A livestream of the service will be available on Margaret’s webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com where a guestbook may also be found. Final resting place will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Walker, MN, at a later date.
