Margaret Ruth Rostad, 87, of Fargo, ND and Lake Park, MN died peacefully in her sleep on June 26, 2019, at her home on Upper Cormorant Lake.
Margaret was the middle daughter born to Ruth and Clarence Jesten on 3/13/1932 in Moorhead, MN. She graduated from Moorhead High in 1949 and Concordia College in 1953, majoring in Home Economics. It was there that Margaret met the love of her life, J. David Rostad. They were married on 8/19/53. Dave was in the Marine Corp and Margaret taught Physical Education in Quantico VA. They returned to Fargo in 1960 when Dave started his insurance business.
Margaret loved being at home raising their three daughters, Lynn, Diane and Susan. She stayed busy with school activities, choirs, piano lessons and 4-H clubs. She was in PEO and in other community groups. She loved to entertain and guests were always welcomed with food and drink aplenty.
As a member of Hope Lutheran Church since 1960, Margaret was very active as a leader in the education programs and she served on many committees and Stephens Ministry. She was the President of the Congregation in 1974.
Margaret always was a sports fan. She tried not to miss any of her grandchildren’s games, loved watching Cobber sports and local high school tournaments. She looked forward to the annual Concordia Christmas Concert and Homecoming events. (One year she was IN the parade as the Homecoming Queen of 1952)
Margaret loved to travel with Dave, family and friends. She played cards whenever she could. She loved being at the lake, watching sunsets and listening to the loons. Margaret will always be remembered for her beautiful smile. Her kind and generous spirit touched everyone she met.
Margaret is survived by daughters, Lynn McBride, Fargo ND and Diane (Skipp) Saaf, Bloomington MN; 6 grandchildren, Andy (Mindy) McBride, Kevin (Katie) McBride, Molly (Troy) Norman, Aimee (Justin) Kuyper, Brian (Courtney) Saaf, and Abby (Garrett) Gustafson; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and lake family who all adored their Auntie Margaret.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J. David Rostad; her daughter, Susan Schoenbeck Lacy; and her sisters, Emmy Lou and Mary Louise.
