Margaret Selland, 97, Fargo, ND, died on Friday, September 02, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.Margaret Opperud was born on July 18, 1908, at Tamarac Lake, in Becker County, MN, to Haldor and Mary Elstad Opperud. She grew up and attended school in Litchville, ND, graduating from Litchville High School. She then attended and graduated from Valley City State Teacher's College in Valley City, ND. She taught school in the Fargo Public Schools. Margaret married Edwin J. "Red" Selland on August 1, 1940 at her home near Litchville, ND. While he served in the U.S. Border Patrol they lived in Fabens, TX, Fort Lincoln, ND, and Crosby, ND. In 1946, they moved to Bismarck, ND, where they lived until 1951 when they moved to Jamestown and then in 1957, moved to Fargo, ND. Margaret had been a member of Olivet Lutheran Church since 1958. She was also a member of P.E.O., and the Fine Arts Club. She took up painting when she was almost seventy years old. She had enjoyed spending summers at the lake near Park Rapids, MN, and winters in Arizona. Margaret is survived by her son, David Kathy Selland, Horace, ND; a sister, Eloise Neevel, Marion, ND; two grandchildren, Alani and Megan Selland; and her long term caregiver and best friend, Char Lamb, Dilworth, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. "Red" Selland; and her sister, Alice Gudmestad.Margaret's family requests that memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association of Minnesota and North Dakota, 4357 SW 13th Ave., Suite #203, Fargo, ND 58103.
