Marian Helen Steen

Marian Helen (Schmidt) Steen, 94, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019, in Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN.

Marian was born on November 23, 1925, to Henry and Emma (Lammers) Schmidt, in Sabin, MN. She grew up in the Sabin/Barnesville, MN, area and attended school in Barnesville. She worked various jobs around Fargo/Moorhead including Hornbachers. She was united in marriage to Russell Steen on June 23, 1948 in Sabin, MN. Together, they farmed near Glyndon. She would work various odd jobs for people around the area such as wallpapering, painting, and upholstery of furniture. Russell passed away in 1986 and Marian moved to Moorhead shortly after. Due to health issues, she moved into Eventide in Moorhead where she lived ever since.

Marian enjoyed crafts such as embroidering and quilting. Above all, she loved spending her time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Marian is survived by her children, Jerry (Jan) Steen, Mary Jo (Dale) Fischer, James Steen, and Jeffrey Steen; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Maxine Schmidt and Louise Schmidt; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell; daughter, Joann Steen; daughter-in-law, Cindy Steen; parents, Henry and Emma; and siblings, Claus, Louise, Minnie, Hulda, John, Leonard, Heinrich, Alyce, and Edwin.

A visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, January 3, 2020, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Final resting place will be at Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, MN, in the spring.
