Marilyn Elaine McClaflin (Nelson), 82, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021, in Sanford Health Hospital, Fargo, ND. Marilyn was born on September 11, 1938, to Edvick and Myrna (Peterson) Nelson.
Marilyn grew up in Valley City, ND, where she attended and graduated from Valley City High School. While in high school, she met Darryl McClaflin and together they moved to California after graduation. The were united in marriage on November 27, 1957, and they raised three children. In 1969, they moved back North Dakota, where they operated Tri Corners Gas Station and Café in Kathryn, ND. Marilyn was the chief cook and was known for her specialty Sunday Dinners. In 1976, they moved to Litchville, ND, where she worked as a bookkeeper at the local Cenex. In 1988, they moved to Fargo where she worked as a receptionist for St. John’s Hospital and a bookkeeper for Dakota Aerotech. She later began her work with customer service at Blue Cross Blue Shield/Noridian before her retirement.
After retirement, Marilyn spent most of her time as a constant companion to her mother at Eventide. For the last four years of her life, she spent her days with her special friend, Conrad Bueng, partaking in Pinochle tournaments, playing card games, doing puzzles, and enjoying the Minnesota Twins.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Danita (Harlee) Olafson and Darryl Jr. (Dana) McClaflin; special friend, Conrad Bueng; grandchildren, Logan (Bri) Olafson, Lucas (Michelle Milan) Olafson, Michael (Chelsea) Olafson, Brady (Madalyn) McClaflin, Kaitlyn McClaflin, Taylor McClaflin, and Ben (Kira) Winkels; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Jack Olafson, Elijah Olafson, and Harper and Hattie Winkels; brother, Terry (Lynette) Nelson; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Darryl Sr.; daughter, Darryln Hamilton; granddaughter, Layne McClaflin; parents, Edvick and Myrna; and brother, Donald Nelson.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 15, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
