Marilyn Hartel, 73, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020, at her home in Fargo, under care of Sanford Hospice.
Marilyn Ruth Kuehl was born February 19, 1947, in Fargo, ND, to Clifford and Isabella (Mikkelsen) Kuehl. She graduated from Glyndon High School in 1965 and received a teaching degree from Moorhead State University in 1969. On June 8, 1969 she was united in marriage to Ronald Hartel in Sabin, MN. They made their first home in Hunter, ND where Marilyn taught kindergarten for 3 years. She later began teaching 2nd grade at Eastwood Elementary in West Fargo, ND. In 1985 she left her teaching career to stay at home and care for their two sons, Michael and Daniel.
Marilyn was a tremendous host and she loved cooking, entertaining and serving people in her home. She loved spending time at the lake with family and friends. She enjoyed competition in games and sports, whether it be golf and tennis when she was younger, or games of bridge and mahjong in later years. She was an active member of Olivet Lutheran Church and a lifelong member of PEO. Marilyn and Ron loved spending time at their winter home in Palm Springs, CA and their summer home on Pelican Lake where they enjoyed the company of many large groups of friends. Marilyn was a loyal and dedicated friend and she will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ron Hartel, of Fargo, ND; her son, Daniel (Michelle) Hartel, and their children, Tyler, Conner, and Kylie; her daughter-in-law, Trenny Hartel, and her children, Miryley and Cole; her brothers, Kenneth (Carolyn) Kuehl, David (Linda) Kuehl and Jim (Jeannie) Kuehl; sisters, Lois (Harlan) Balken, Margaret Jalbert, Phyllis (Eldon) Sorem, Sandy (Butch) Anton and Nancy (Craig) Boldt; sister-in-law, Carol Kuehl, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Hartel; her brother, Gerald Kuehl; her sister-in-law, Beverly Lammers Kuehl, and her brother-in-law, Lynn Jalbert.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sanford Hospice RN Kari Moen and private caregivers Becky Bergeson and Jessica Engler for the wonderful care they provided for Marilyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Olivet Lutheran Church, Elmwood Cemetery in Sabin, and Sanford Hospice.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions on size of gatherings, a private family service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. Masks are required at the church. A livestream of the service will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Marilyn’s page at www.wrightfuneral.com. A private burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Sabin.
