Marilyn DeVaughn Thompson, 86, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in Woodbury Healthcare Center, Woodbury, MN. Marilyn was born September 20, 1930, at Hawley, MN, to Andrew and Inga Berg. She grew up and attended school in Hawley, graduating from Hawley High School. Following high school, she continued her education and received a Bachelor of Science from Moorhead State Teachers College in June of 1952 with honors in scholarship. On March 29, 1953, Marilyn married Nels Thompson. Together they made their home on the Thompson farm west of Rollag, where they raised their three children. She initially taught Junior High PE and later English in Detroit Lakes Public Schools until about 1984. Later, in the mid-90s, Nels and Marilyn sold the farm and bought a home in Moorhead. In 2010, Marilyn and Nels sold their home and moved to River Pointe Senior Living. Over the years, Marilyn enjoyed gardening, antique collecting, baking, but most of all spending time with her family.
Memorials are preferred to Rollag Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
She is survived by her children, Barry Lori Thompson and Rikki Thor Wagstrom; grandchildren, Ryan Dawn and Matthew Thompson, Solvi, Soren, and Ingrid Wagstrom; great grandchildren, Alexa, Bailey, Richard, and Jade Thompson.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Nels; son, David; parents, Andrew and Inga; brothers, Alden, Vinton, and Leighton.
Visitation: Friday, July 28, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, with prayer service at 7 PM, in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Memorial Service: Saturday, July 29, at 11:00 AM, in Rollag Lutheran Church, Rollag, MN. Interment: Rollag Lutheran Church Cemetery
