Marjorie G. Ladwig

Marjorie Grace Ladwig, 93, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.

Marjorie Grace McLaughlin was born December 7, 1924, the daughter of Jotham Clifford “Cliff” McLaughlin and Hilda Sophia (Erickson) McLaughlin on a farm in rural Buena Vista County near Marathon, Iowa.  She attended the Marathon schools and graduated from Marathon High School in 1942.  Marjorie studied Dietetics at Iowa State University from 1942-1945.  She married Vaylord Dale Ladwig at the Marathon Methodist Church on July 7, 1945.  Reverend Samuel Nichols, pastor at Collegiate Methodist Church, Ames, Iowa, officiated at the ceremony and also baptized all 4 of their children.  After their marriage Marjorie moved to Sac City, Iowa where Vaylord practiced veterinary medicine and where their 4 children were raised.  She and Vaylord had many friends in Sac City and belonged to various card clubs there.  They were also active in the Sac City Methodist Church.  In January of 1971, she and Vaylord moved to Urbana, Illinois, where Vaylord taught at the University of Illinois, School of Veterinary Medicine.  They traveled throughout the United States and to many different places in Europe.  Vaylord died on February 22, 1979.  She attended Parkland College, Urbana, from 1979-1981 and earned her RN degree.  She worked in local nursing homes and as a private duty nurse for a number of years and was active in the Grace Methodist Church in Urbana.  Marjorie loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed a number of special summer weeks at Minnesota resorts with her family.  In November of 2001 Marjorie moved to an apartment at Linden Tree Circle near Eventide in Moorhead.  She entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead in December of 2002.

Marjorie is survived by two children, Nancy Dorris Milton, Des Moines, Iowa, Tom (Diane) Ladwig, Sioux City, Iowa, and daughter-in-law, Carol Ladwig, Moorhead, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Irma Swan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Dorothy Beauvais; brothers, Charles Lowell McLaughlin, Jim McLaughlin and Harold McLaughlin (in infancy); son, John on October 24, 2017; and daughter, Janet Marie Lucien on November 26, 1979.

Any memorials will be given to the Dr. Vaylord Dale Ladwig Memorial Scholarship Fund, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be for one hour before the service.

Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana, Illinois.
