Marjorie H. Hanson

Marjorie died on June 10, 2006 at her home in Dallas, Oregon surrounded by her family and loved ones.Marjorie was born April 4, 1918, in Goose Prairie, Township, MN. The daughter of Alfred and Lillian Oss. She moved to Hitterdal as an infant and lived there until November 17, 1959. She was valedictorian of Hitterdal High School 1936, and graduated Moorhead Business College a year later. Marjorie and five of her six younger brothers formed the Oss Kiddies Band and performed professionally for dances and on the radio until she married Bernard Hanson on September 3, 1939, in a lawn wedding at her parents' home in Hitterdal. She worked in her Father's General Mercantile, Oss Brothers Store. She and Bernard had two children, B. Marlyn Butch and Marilyn Jean. They owned and operated Hanson Hatchery in Hitterdal for 18 years. The Hanson's moved to Brigham City, UT, where she managed a Finance Company and Bernard built homes. They bought a Coast to Coast store in Rupert, ID, and moved there in 1961. They sold the store in 1963 and retired. but retirement didn't agree with Marjorie and she became Office Manager/bookkeeper for a Burley, ID newspaper. The Hanson's purchased a True Value Store in Billings, MT, in 1964, and relocated to Billings. They finally succeeded in retiring in 1971 and moved to Amity, OR. They later moved to Dallas, OR. Marjorie and Bernard travel extensively after retirement including trips to Norway, Russia, Finland, Spain, Morocco, Alaska and extensively throughout the US. They were Snowbirds in winter, fleeing the cold north and camping on the deserts of AZ, CA and NV. Following the death of Bernard in 1990, Marjorie continued traveling and visited the Panama Canal and China. Marjorie always sewed and did fancy work. Retirement afforded her time to take up quilting and she placed 2nd in the Oregon State Fair the only year she entered. Marjorie is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Bernard Hanson; her parents, Alfred and Lillian Oss: and brothers Lowell Oss, Clayton Oss, and Maynard Oss.She is survived by her son B. Marlyn Butch Hanson, and his wife Sharon, of Independence, OR; daughter Marilyn Jeannie Hanson of Scio, OR; 4 grandchildren Kris, Karl, Kori and Amanda; and 4 great grandchildren Trevor, Lacey, Brianna and Taylor.
