Marjorie L. Johnson, 85, Lake Park, MN, died on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.Marjorie L. Nelson was born on December 6, 1923, near Rollag, MN, to Maynard and Tilla Teigen Nelson. She graduated from Lake Park High School in 1942 and then worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in a defense plant in Michigan. She returned to Lake Park and married Carl T. Johnson in 1950, they made their home in Lake Park. She worked at the Community Co-op of Lake Park for thirty-five years, serving as bookkeeper and office manager. In 1965 she was appointed to the Lake Park Board of Education, where she served for over twenty years, including a term as president. In 1971 she was appointed to Minnesota School Boards Association where she held various offices including president. She was later appointed to the Minnesota State Board of Education and served as president there. She was elected to the National School Boards Association and also served there as president. Following her time of service to education she was elected Becker County Commissioner and served for two terms. She also served on the Lake Agassiz Regional Library Board, Sunnyside Nursing Home Board, Lakeland Mental Health Board, Becker County Historical Society Museum Board and was a life-long active member of Lake Park Lutheran Church. She was a Volunteer Listener at the Lake Park Audubon Schools and a member of Royal Neighbors and the Lake Park American Legion Auxilliary. Her life was spent in service to others and she had a great love for family and friends. She will be dearly missed.Marjorie is survived by her sons, Ted Pam Johnson, Red Wing, MN, and Tom Anita Johnson, Park River, ND; two brothers, Clayton Wanda Nelson, Detroit Lakes, MN, and John Pat Nelson, Audubon, MN; seven sisters, Maxine Grani, Lake Park, MN, Jessie Ullrich, Lake Park, MN, Jeanette Russell Biewer, Lake Park, MN, Denise Erickson, Lake Park, MN, Rudella Doug Wermager, Audubon, MN, Connie Max Baer, Lake Park, MN, and Karen Curt Hanson, Moorhead; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Erica and Brett. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl and her brother, Lyle.Memorials may be given to the Lake Park Lutheran Church.
