Surrounded by her devoted family, Marjorie “Margie” Luverne (Jegtvig) Ramstad, 94, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at her home in rural Hawley, MN.
Margie was born in Eglon Township, rural Hawley, MN, on October 26, 1925, to Edward and Annie (Omberg) Jegtvig. Margie was baptized on November 29, 1925, and confirmed on June 18, 1939, at Hegland Lutheran Church in rural Hawley. One of twelve children, Margie grew up on a family farm and attended school in the rural Hawley area. Like all farm families at that time, Margie helped with the work of a farm and with the care of her siblings.
On October 3, 1947, Margie married Ogden Ramstad in Moorhead, MN. The ethic of hard work that she learned as a child followed Margie throughout her life. A ‘dynamic duo,’ Margie and Ogden worked together operating a small grain/dairy farm near Hawley that was designated in 2018 as a ‘Century Farm.’ In addition to the farm work, over the years Margie also worked full-time at Hart’s Red Owl and the Locker Plant both in Hawley, MN, and American Linen (now AmeriPride) in Fargo, ND, until retiring in 1988.
Margie was a member of Hawley Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a charter member of Living Grace Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN. Margie’s strong faith in her God was an example for her husband and daughters and sustained her when effects from strokes limited her activities.
Margie enjoyed planning house remodeling projects, working in the yard, fishing, finding new recipes to try, hosting family events at the farm, traveling and sharing time with her family and friends. A devoted mother, she instilled in her daughters the desire to work hard and the importance of life-long learning.
Margie is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ogden Ramstad, Hawley, MN; daughters, Phyllis Ramstad and Loretta Ramstad, both of Hawley, MN; brother E. Roger Jegtvig, Moorhead, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Margie was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Kathryn Ann; parents, Edward and Annie Jegtvig; brothers, Harry Jegtvig, Alden Jegtvig, Kenneth Jegtvig, and infant twin boys; and sisters, Edna Ohnstad, Gladys Kronbeck, Jewell Tangen, Ruthie Treon, and Verna Barker.
Margie’s family is grateful to the staff at Hospice of the Red River Valley for their kind care and support.
