Marlene E. Ishaug, age 77, of Moorhead, MN, died Monday, May 7, 2012, in her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley with her family by her side.Marlene Ethel Hardina was born on October 22, 1934, to Albert and Ethel Campbell Hardina in Britton, SD. She grew up and attended school in Kidder, SD, graduating in 1952. In high school, Marlene was an active cheerleader and played basketball. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Fargo, ND, where she began working for Reed Cleaners. On November 23, 1958, she married DeLyle Ishaug in Kidder, SD. Together they had three children, Lori, Diane and Susan. Marlene later worked for Silverline Boat Company in Moorhead for ten years before working as a floral arrangement designer for JW Perry Wholesale Florist from which she retired in 1989. After retirement, she and DeLyle wintered in Panama City, FL and Mesa, AZ.Marlene's door was always open; she was a second mom to many. Over the course of fourteen years, Marlene and DeLyle graciously opened their home as foster parents to 54 teenage girls. She loved cooking and entertaining where she surrounded herself by friends and family. She also enjoyed shopping and will be remembered by her glittery style and personality. Marlene had a special love of miniature schnauzers and even raised them. Marlene also enjoyed dancing, camping, gardening, and reading romance novels while lying on the dock at their lake cabin on Pelican Lake. Most importantly however, Marlene loved her children and her three grandchildren, who were truly the apple of her eye. She will be missed dearly by those who knew her.Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 53 years, DeLyle Ishaug of Moorhead, MN; her daughters, Lori Ishaug Brad Steen of Moorhead, MN, Diane Doug Moderow of Casselton, ND and Susan Schroeder of Moorhead, MN; three precious grandchildren, Skyler, Shelby and Gracie as well as numerous extended family members.She was preceded in death by her parents.
