Marlene Marlys Bekkerus, 78, Moorhead joined the saints November 4, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 9th, 1938 to Edwin and Clariece Melby and grew up on the family farm north of Moorhead. As a child, she enjoyed the lifelong friends of the rural farming Community. She enjoyed family, music and with her sister, she sang on a local radio station and even made a record. She attended the Campus School in Moorhead and in her senior year transferred to Moorhead High where she graduated. She married Allen Bekkerus June 1, 1956. They raised their family in Moorhead. Marlene enjoyed cooking best lefse anywhere, square dancing, fishing, playing cards, good family time, her lake cabin and wintering in Florida. She also loved life at Trinity which she was involved in Sunday School, Youth Choirs, Advent Workshop, Quilting and many more. Marlene worked in the school lunch program in Moorhead and eventually received a teaching degree from Moorhead State College She retired from West Fargo Public Schools where she taught Sixth grade. Marlene loved the game of Mah-jongg which she taught at Community Education and organized a group to play regularly.

Marlene had an enthusiastic “can do” love for life attitude that made a difference in all of the lives she touched.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Clariece Melby; brother Russell Melby; sister Shirley Hegland; and daughter-in-law Susan Bekkerus.
Marlene is survived by Husband Allen of 60 years; son Bruce Bekkerus, Moorhead; daughter Linda Steve Granberg, Moorhead; grandchildren Robert, Leah, Brittany and Bradley; great-grandchildren Nick, Ava, Abby, William and Mason; brother Gerald Cheryl Melby.
Visitation will be Wednesday November 9th, from 5-7 at Wright Funeral home, Moorhead.
The Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday November 10, 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Fargo.
