Marlin Ray Vig, 82, of Dilworth, MN passed away in his home November 17, 2015. Marlin was the fourth child born to Alfred and Sophie Salveson Vig on April 13, 1933 on a farm 5 ½ miles southeast of Veblen in Norway Township, Roberts County, SD. Marlin grew up on the farm and went to grade school in Norway District 5 and high school in Veblen. Marlin was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1955 for 2 years and was stationed at Fort Sill, OK, in the artillery. After the Army, Marlin returned home where he farmed until 1965. Marlin then moved to Minneapolis, MN and became a carpenter. Marlin was a talented carpenter and repairman who could fix or build nearly anything. On December 2, 1978, he married Phyllis Anderson Jorud of Fergus Falls, MN and became stepfather to a son, Timothy Jorud. On November 4, 1982, a son, Nathan, was born. They made their home in Dilworth where Marlin lived until his last day. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Laverna Ysteboe. He is survived by his wife; a son, Nathan, Seattle, WA; a stepson, Tim Holly and grandchildren, Reilly, Alecia, and Afton, Fargo, ND; a sister, Lorayne Lien, Moorhead, MN; a brother, Sanford Darlene Vig, Claire City, SD; a sister, Janet Laurel Pistorius, Sisseton, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family burial will be held on Monday, November 23rd, with a full memorial service being held next summer at their Wall Lake summer home built by Marlin.
