Marlys J. Olson

Marlys was born March 27, 1940, in Twin Valley, MN, to Edwin and Lorna Runck Beckman. She grew up and attended school in Mahnomen, graduating in 1958 from Mahnomen High School. Marlys attended community college in Thief River Falls, MN, for one year for accounting. On June 12, 1965, she married Lloyd Olson. Marlys was baptized, confirmed and married in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mahnomen, MN. She spent her working years working as a cook at numerous locations, including the Dakota Hospital, Ramada, MSUM and Eventide. Marlys enjoyed quilting, cooking, being involved in Glyndon Lutheran Church and her homemaker friends. She also enjoyed shopping at thrift stores and most importantly, Marlys enjoyed spending time with her family. The apple of her eye was her great-grandson, Brodey, who referred to her as "Mamo". Marlys will be missed dearly by her family and friends.She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Lloyd Olson of Glyndon, MN; two sons, Darin Samantha Olson of Barrett, MN, and Monty Susan Olson of Glyndon, MN; one daughter, Marita Tom Palya of Barnesville, MN; one brother, Richard Sharon Beckman of Lengby, MN; four sisters, Ardell Allrich of Bloomington, MN, Mary Ann Al Urvig of Menahga, MN, Barbara VanHorne of Buffalo, MN, and Renee Ron Ahmann of Park Rapids, MN; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler, Cody, Kyle, Cayla, Ashlyn, Austin and Aric; one great-grandchild, Brodey and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents and one niece, Melissa and brother-in-law, Keith.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The family will donate memorials in memory of Marlys to her favorite funds.
