MARVEL LAVINA OSTBYE
Marvel L. Sis Ostbye, 95, formerly of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Sunday, February 21, 2016. Marvel Lavina Endersbee was born on March 17, 1920 to Emma Lavina Nelson and Earl Marvin Endersbee in Fargo, ND. She attended high school in Fargo and graduated from Interstate Business College. On February 7, 1943 Sis was married to her high school sweetheart, Owen Ostbye, in Los Angeles, California. During World War II, while Owen was overseas, Sis supported the war effort at home by working at North American Aviation in Inglewood, California. Following the war, Owen and Sis made their home in Fargo, Crookston, Detroit Lakes, and Waseca before finally settling in Moorhead in 1955. Upon retirement from Thomas Edison Elementary School in 1985, Sis continued to lead a very active life volunteering for The Lost and Found Ministry, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, and Concordia Language Villages until the age of 88. Sis loved the outdoors, gardening, her church circle group, sewing club, coffee group, time with friends and family, and summers on Pelican Lake. To the very end, Sis was particularly devoted to the lives and endeavors of her grandchildren.
Sis is survived by her two sons, Michael Linda of Costa Rica, Gary Sandra of Fort Myers Beach, Florida; four grandchildren, Jason Ostbye Christine of Minnetonka, MN, Lara Larson Jeffrey of St. Cloud, MN, Brent Ostbye Katherine of Seattle, WA, and Angela O’Leary Ryan of Plymouth, MN; five great-grandchildren, Jayda Larson, Zoey Larson, Owen Ostbye, Carson Ostbye, and Harlan Ostbye; sister-in-law, Shirley Endersbee; four nieces and two nephews, Mary Ellen Olson, Jeanne Olson, Diane Sevier, Renee McMullen, Earle Olson, and Steve Endersbee. Sis also leaves many dear friends.
Sis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Owen 1976, brother Arthur Mike Endersbee, brother Earl Pat Endersbee, sister Ellen Olson, sister-in-law Phyllis Endersbee, brother-in-law Dan Olson, brother-in-law Carlton Bud Ostbye, father-in-law Lawrence Ostbye and mother-in-law Charlotte Ostbye.
The memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, MN, with a visitation one hour before the service.
Interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
