Marvin E. Gerhardson

Marvin Gerhardson died on Thursday, March 10th, 2016 at his home in Hawley, MN. He was 87 years old.
Marv was born on April 4, 1929, in Fergus Falls, MN. His parents were Eddie and Tina Gerhardson. After Marv graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1947, he farmed with his father for one year. He then worked for Ottertail Power Company as a lineman for two years. In 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Korea during the Korean War, and upon being honorably discharged in 1953, he enrolled as a freshman at North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo.
Marv married Audrey Erickson in 1955. They both attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating in 1958. Marv continued at UND where he received his Masters Degree in Counseling and Guidance. They moved to West Fargo, ND, and for the next nine years he was the guidance counselor at the West Fargo High School. He then began working in the Counseling Center at Moorhead State University until 1992, when he retired as Dean of Students.
Marv and Audrey have five children: Julie Gerhardson, Hawley; Joel, San Francisco, Ca; Krisanne Mogck Dana, Fargo; Timothy Christina London, England; Thorey Ellis Jay, Spring Grove, Illinois. They have nine grandchildren: Kari Tangen Kane Seitz, Michael Amanda Breiter, Sasha Gerhardson, Joseph, Matthew, and Justine Ellis, and Gunnar, Annika and Bergen Mogck. They also have two great-grandchildren: Kaden and Keaton Seitz.
Marv was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo, and then at Hawley Lutheran. He taught Sunday School and confirmation for 40 years, and was also a leader in the youth group and chaperoned several mission trips. He served on the board for Eglon Township and the Hawley School Board for several years.
Marv is survived by his wife Audrey, and by his children and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carroll Gerhardson.

Memorial Service: Monday, March 14, at 11:00 a.m. in Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN. Memorial gathering will be one hour before the service.
