Marvyl L. Carlson, age 76 of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, surrounded by her family.Marvyl Lucille Carlson was born in St. Paul on November 30, 1930 to Ruth and Leonard Grayson. Marvyl spent her early years in Beltrami, MN under the care of her mother's parents. Her mother was remarried in 1938 to Oliver Norbeck, who adopted Marvyl. After grade school in Fargo, Marvyl moved with her parents to Indianapolis, IN, where she attended high school. After one year at Earlham College in Indiana, Marvyl transferred to Rochester Jr. College for Medical Secretary training. It was there she met Emil J. Jack Carlson, who she married on December 29, 1951. Marvyl and Jack settled in the Fargo-Moorhead area where Marvyl worked as a Medical Secretary first at Dakota Clinic and later at St. John's Hospital in Fargo. Marvyl and Jack built a house in south Moorhead in 1955. Over the past 52 years, Marvyl loved and doted over that house and its garden and the four children she raised there as well as many cats and dogs. She was also an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since the late 1960's.Marvyl is survived by her husband Jack, daughter Jana Sid Schmid of McKinney, TX, son John Carol of Little River, SC, son Robert Kristin Nelson of Salt Lake City, UT, son Richard of Moorhead, MN and brother Bob Lynette Norbeck of Bismarck, ND.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Association of Retarded Citizens.
