Mary Ann Held

Mary Ann Held, 79, of Moorhead, MN, died Monday, April 6, 2015, in Palliative Care at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Mary Ann Brainerd was born on October 21, 1935 in Fargo, ND, to Arthur and Edith Horner Brainerd. She grew up in Moorhead, MN, where she graduated from Moorhead High School in 1954. Mary Ann worked at St. Ansgar’s Hospital in the radiology department. She also enjoyed spending time babysitting her many nieces and nephews. On May 27, 1966, Mary Ann married Willard Held. They made their home in Moorhead and had two children, Vicky and Lee. Mary Ann worked in Dining Services at Concordia College for 33 years, until her retirement.

In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed being at the lake, making art, and spending time with her family. She especially loved being with her grandchildren and attending their events and sports activities. Mary Ann will be remembered for the way she made friends, her caring nature and keen sense of humor, which often left you smiling.

Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Vicky Rick Westra, Moorhead, MN; son, Lee Kelly Held, Hershey, PA; three sisters, Marlene Ernie Dahl, Moorhead, MN, Carol Bill Krogen, Moorhead, MN, and Dorothy Holte, Anoka, MN; brother, Sonny Jean Brainerd, Cheyenne, WY; four grandchildren, Nolan and Colton Westra and Madison and Alexandra Held; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Bill Brainerd, and niece, Julie Brainerd.

Visitation: Friday, April 10, 2015, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
