Mary Ann Raaen

Mary Ann Raaen, long time resident of Cuba township in Becker County, passed away on December 7, 2020, at the age of 92.

Mary Ann was born at Anoka, Nebraska in an October snowstorm.  She lived with her parents, Charlie and Maggie Bowers, through remarkable times and the Depression years.  Living always on the farm, the family always had a plentiful garden, chickens, cows and ponies to ride but never a bicycle.

Mary Ann was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spencer, Nebraska and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, which she was a member of for almost 50 years.  She held many positions: church treasurer, ladies aid and circle.  She was a Homemaker member, a leader of Bone Builders exercise class in Lake Park, and a member of great Nomad camping group.  She then joined Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Mary Ann loved to travel (especially in their motor homes), dance, square dance, play cards, cook, bake, sew and help good people in Park Village apartments where she lived the last several years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charlie and Maggie Bowers; her husbands, John Molacek, Lawrence Raaen and longtime companion Ivan Kaiser; grandson Joshua Mikkelson; daughters-in-law Irene Raaen and Shannon Raaen and one brother, Richard Bowers.  She is survived by her children, Shirley (David) Bredman, Bobby (Pam Hobbs) Raaen, Betty Ann Raaen, Loree (Chuck) Morse, and Dale Raaen; one sister, Iris Rognli; grandchildren, JoLene, Darin, Dion, Derek, Casey, Katilyn, Tara, Christopher, Kenneth, Daniel, Abigail, Chelsey, Carissa, Carli and Carter; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Isabel, Elizabeth, Emily, Jack, Matthew, Braedon, Zachary, Colton, Cooper, Raligh Ann, Rosalee, Raena and Alanis.

Grandma Mary Ann hopes she’s left everyone with lasting memories and she will be ready with banana bread for Carli, apple pie for Carter and popcorn balls for Dale when they come to visit her in heaven.
