Mary Lou Murphy

May 16, 1951 — March 12, 2020

MaryLou Murphy, 68, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away in Bethany Retirement Home Fargo, North Dakota, with family by her side on March 12, 2020.  She was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, and was the oldest of eight children.  She graduated from Dorchester High School in 1971.  She received her Associates Degree in Science in 1991 from Moorhead State University.  She also received her diploma of Occupational Proficiency as medical record technician that same year.  She received her Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude from Moorhead State University in August 1998.

MaryLou is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Louise Murphy and father, Paul James Murphy.  She is also preceded in death by her brother, Paul James Murphy.  She is survived by her only child and son, Jesse Roberts (Amy) and granddaughter, Isla “The Joy of Her Life”.  She is also survived by her sister, Susan (Wayne) Sedivec; brothers, Joseph (Evelyn) Murphy, Richard (Toni) Murphy, Timothy (Helen) Murphy, James Murphy, Michael (Mary) Murphy and many more nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

MaryLou was a mother first and very devoted to her only son Jesse.  She relocated to Moorhead from Boston when Jesse was just an infant.  She then continued and completed her education in Minnesota.  She was employed for a time with Dakota Hospital Medical Records and Coding.  MaryLou’s world changed when Jesse found his wife Amy.  They blessed her with a most delightful and spunky granddaughter, Isla in 2013.  In MaryLou’s own words “Isla is the light of my life”.

MaryLou was also very devoted to her Christian faith.  She was an active member of the Faith Hope and Love Church in Moorhead.  She volunteered from time to time with Birthright of Fargo/Moorhead.  She also taught preschool Sunday school.

MaryLou will be truly missed by her family and many friends.
