Mary Louise Braaten

Mary Louise (Proell) Braaten, 68, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018, in Sanford Palliative Unit, Fargo, ND, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born on April 22, 1950, in Deer River, MN, to Harold and Lillian (Cook) Proell. They moved to Long Prairie, MN, where she grew up and attended Long Prairie Schools. She met her future husband, Robert Braaten in Long Prairie and they were united in marriage on December 12, 1967, in Browerville, MN. Mary and Robert moved to Georgetown, MN in 1976 where they raised their family while owning and operating their business, Braaten Meats. They moved to Fargo in 1993 where Mary worked at Brennan Cleaners until her lymphoma diagnosis in May of 2017.

Mary loved the Minnesota Twins and the FM Redhawks. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Mary is survived by her husband, Robert Braaten; children, Amy Ziegler, Mary (Scott) Sinner, and Robin (Gary) Garza; grandchildren, Amber, Tanner, Veronica, Aleida, Gary, Paige, and Alexa; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lowell (Bev) Dugan, Linda (Jim) Crowe, Penny (Art) Bongers, Becky (Dennis) Borucki, Lorrie Centers; sister-in-law, Marilyn Proell; and many other loving relatives and friends. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lillian; siblings, Dennis (Connie) Proell, Jim Proell, and Sharon (Art) Wait; and brother-in-law, Mike Centers.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. followed by the prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue Thursday, January 3, 2019, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Wright Funeral Home. Final resting place will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN, at a later date.
