Maurice G. Olsgaard

Maurice Olsgaard, 93, Moorhead, MN, died on Saturday, June 29, 2013, in his home at Linden Tree Circle, Moorhead.
Maurice was born on May 20, 1920, in Fargo, ND, to Jens and Esther Gustafson Olsgaard. He grew up and attended school at Rustad, MN, and then farmed with his dad there. When he turned 21, he became the first draftee in Clay County during WWII. He served in France, Belgium and Germany with the Third Armored Division and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in 1945 as a Specialist 2nd Class and returned to Rustad where he farmed with his brothers, raising wheat, soybeans and sugarbeets. He enjoyed woodworking, building furniture and toys, liked to golf and bowl and enjoyed being part of the Senior Golf Tour.
Maurice married Mabel May Varloe on July 20, 1972, in First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
He had been a member of Kiwanis, Gideons, Sons of Norway, and the American Legion and V.F.W. clubs. He also was a lifetime member of Hoff Lutheran Church in Rustad, where he had served on the church council.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Mabel May Olsgaard, Moorhead, MN; three brothers, Charles Mary, Moorhead, MN, Otto, West Fargo, ND and Richard Rose, Bellevue, WA; two sisters, Ida Flaaten, Moorhead, MN, and Hazel Jerry Iwen, Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law, Anne and Norma Olsgaard; brother-in-law, Harry Kakutani; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Oscar, Selmer, Raymond, Peter, James, Harold and Ted; and sisters Marjorie, Shirley, Elna and Grace.
The family would like to thank the staff of Eventide for the wonderful care they have provided to both Maurice and May over the years.

Visitation: Monday, July 1, 2013, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Funeral: Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 1:30 P.M., in Hoff Lutheran Church, Rustad, MN.
Interment: Hoff Lutheran Cemetery, Rustad, MN.
