Maurice W. Goodwill, 97, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020 in Lilac Homes, Moorhead, MN, due to complications from Covid-19.
Maurice William Goodwill was born in Derrick, ND, on September 16, 1922 to William and Lydia (Miller) Goodwill. He later moved with his family to a farm near Starkweather, ND. After graduating high school, he went on to attend NDSU in Fargo, ND, for two years before entering the Army Air Corp.
Maurice married Mavis “Mim” Hakanson in March of 1944 and returned to NDSU to complete his bachelor’s degree in engineering. While at NDSU he became a life-long Bison fan.
Maurice, with his partner, Les Haug designed and developed the equipment for the fabrication of steel buildings and obtained several patents which led to the formation of Wedg-Cor Steel Building Co. in Jamestown, ND. Maurice enjoyed flying and even built his own amphibious aircraft with the help of his good friend, John Ohnstad. He always had an interest in agriculture, horses, music, commodities trading and politics. And he loved to go dancing with Mim. You would often hear him say “C’mon love, let’s dance,” while reaching for her hand.
Maurice is survived by his children, William (Rita) Goodwill, Patricia (Rick) Anderson, Douglas (Lynn) Goodwill and Denise (Arlan Kunz) Goodwill; grandchildren, Dr. Stacy (Dan Raymond) Goodwill, Blair (Jodi) Anderson and Natalie Goodwill; great-grandchildren, Grant Raymond, Emma Blue Anderson, and Aspen Wittenberg, and sister-in-law Lorelei Goodwill of Omaha, NE, and all of his beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Jack Goodwill; sister, Betty Hestdalen and grandson, Cale Goodwill.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Lilac Homes, the VA and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving care.
Keep dancing Mom and Dad!
