Mavis D. Corneliussen

Mavis Corneliussen, age 83 of Hawley, MN, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019, at Viking Manor in Ulen, MN. Mavis Darlene, the daughter of Rudolph and Inga (Hilde) Matson was born March 8, 1936. Mavis was the youngest of the Matson girls and was confirmed in faith at Jevnaker Lutheran Church in rural Borup, MN. She attended school in Felton, MN. Mavis was united in marriage to Marvin Corneliussen on May 9, 1953, celebrating their 66^th anniversary this past May.

Mavis worked faithfully at Hawley Senior Living for 33 years and enjoyed many aspects of caring for the residents. Mavis’ highlights were when the grandchildren and kids showed up unannounced to just hang out. She especially enjoyed holiday gatherings where her family filled the house from wall to wall. She also had a love for animals and when her grand puppies made visits as well.

Mavis is survived by her husband, Marvin; children, Marlys (Jerry) Iverson of St. Louis, MO, Marsha (Doug) Keeping of Hawley, MN, Sandy Johnson (special friend Dave Weinsberger) of Hawley, MN, Jeff (Stephanie) Corneliussen of Hawley, MN, Lois (Mitch) Doyle of Hawley, MN, Bruce (Susan) Corneliussen of Andover, MN, Randy Corneliussen of Hawley, MN; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer, Lance, Brent, Bradley, Jason, Stephanie, Erica, Adam, Daniel, Greg, Scott, Taylor, Leah, Shelby, Amanda, Kayla; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Hogenson of Ulen, MN, and Jean Hammernik of Flom, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Inga; sisters, Audrey Bjorhus and Orpha Braseth; and two infant grandchildren, Rusty Iverson and Travis Iverson.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Viking Manor for the wonderful care for our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Also thank you to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 18, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm, at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN.

Interment will be at Hawley Cemetery.
