Mavis Jacobsen

Mavis (Gilbery) Jacobsen, 97, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Park Rapids and Glyndon, MN, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Eventide on 8th in Moorhead. 

She was born on January 14, 1927, to George and Bertha (Kleveland) Gilbery in Lansing, Michigan. When she was an infant, the family moved to Minnesota and in 1937 the family bought a farm in Georgetown, MN. She and her four siblings grew up on the Gilbery farm in Georgetown. Mavis graduated from Moorhead High School and attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND where she earned a degree in bookkeeping and shorthand.

She married Raymond Jacobsen on June 29, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. They bought a farm in Glyndon, MN where they raised their three children, Mark, Robert and Linda. She worked at the NDSU Extension Office and did the bookkeeping for the farm. Mavis was active in the Glyndon community with church, bible study and gardening clubs. She also enjoyed bowling. In 1977 they purchased a resort on Little Sand Lake near Park Rapids, MN, which they operated in the summer for many years. She enjoyed spending time at the lake with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years she planted several gardens and had many flowers at each home she owned. For several years she and Raymond spent a lot of time in the summer bringing their Shetland 6 pony horse team to parades. Always a gracious and attentive host, Mavis loved entertaining in her home. Family and friends enjoyed her wonderful home-cooked meals and baked goods. Mavis and Ray enjoyed traveling together, and winters spent in Naples, FL were especially memorable.

Mavis will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children, Robert Jacobsen, of Audubon, MN and Linda Fuglie, of Lake Park, MN; sister, Virginia Wright, of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Jessica Schwehr, Ryan Beery, Justin (Amanda) Swank, Melanie (Chris) Weiland, Michelle (Martin) LaCoursiere, Meranda (Rick) Lelonek, Sydney (Sean) Thompson, Ben Fuglie, Brady Fuglie, Chadwick Childress; 32 great- grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bertha Gilbery; her husband, Raymond Jacobsen; her son, Mark Jacobsen; siblings, James Gilbery, Glenn Gilbery and Phyllis Nelson; grandsons, Robert Jacobsen Jr. and Jake Fuglie, and great-grandchildren, William, Tiffany and Jordan.
