Megan J. Ellingson

August 29, 1987 — April 9, 2019

Megan Jean Ellingson, 31, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, April 09, 2019, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and surrounded by her loving family. Megan was born August 29, 1987, at Fort Sam Houston, Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, to Lee and Aime (Vetter) Ellingson. After a few moves around the U.S. in her first eleven years of life, Lee and Aime then decided to leave the Army and move closer to extended family.  They made their home in Wadena, MN.  Megan enjoyed growing up on their hobby farm where she especially loved gardening and caring for the animals.

Megan also enjoyed music and was an accomplished classically trained pianist and violinist. As a teenager, she played for church and many special occasions around the region and taught younger children in her spare time. After graduating, she continued her education at Minnesota Community and Technical Colleges in Wadena and Fergus Falls, MN.  In 2013, Megan moved to Moorhead, MN.

Over the years, Megan battled her allergies, asthma and numerous health disorders.  Creative Care for Reaching Independence (CCRI) of Moorhead, MN, was instrumental for the past six years helping Megan maintain her independence.  After college, her physical activities became increasingly difficult; but despite her disability, she remained active with teaching children at the YMCA in Fargo. She was also very active in her church where she loved being a part of children’s ministry and VBS as well as Bible studies.   She also wrote a blog for her church.  Megan had a passion for serving and was an inspiration for so many, especially by writing poetry and with her music.  She also loved other creative activities such drawing, coloring, and playing piano and violin.  She loved the Lord and her family; and anyone who knew her readily became a lasting friend. Megan’s family, and especially her younger sisters, was the focus of her attention and love.  She will be dearly missed.

Megan is survived by her parents, Lee and Aime; siblings, Ryan (Colie), Nathan, Caleb, Hannah (Grant) Christensen, Lydia, Sophia, Emily and Abigail; niece and nephew, Sasha and Dakota; grandmother, Maureen Ellingson; grandfather, Daniel Vetter; 13 aunts and uncles; 28 cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Jeanette Vetter; and grandfather, Darryl Ellingson.

The family would like to give a special thank you to CCRI and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their wonderful care.
