Melpha was born February 13, 1920 in Cromwell Township, Clay County, Minnesota to Alfred T. and Anna Tangen Anderson. She grew up and attended District #44 and #93 country schools. She worked at Fargo Laundry and Manchester Biscuit Company, Hawley Bakery and Hanson's Food Market in Hawley. Melpha married Roy Mattson on February 13, 1947 in Lysne Lutheran Church, near Hawley, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed in Keene Township, Clay County, MN. Melpha was a member of Lysne Lutheran Church in rural Hawley, MN. Melpha always raised a big garden, enjoyed crotcheting, quilting, and embroidery work. Through the years Melpha and Roy shared their home with several nieces and nephews. They enjoyed traveling to Phoenix and also trips to area parks. Melpha entered the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN, in June of 2004, where she has since resided. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Allan Anderson & Arnold Anderson. Melpha is survived by her husband, Roy Mattson, Hawley, MN; three sisters, Inez Larson, Rothsay, MN, Alfred Elmer Blakeway, Hawley, MN, and Marlene Duffney, Moorhead, MN; two sisters-in-law, Carol Anderson, Coon Rapids, MN, and Myrtle Anderson Bernier, Fargo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
