Melvin Elmer Forderer, 87, of Dilworth, MN, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, in Sanford Health Hospital, Fargo, ND. Melvin was born on January 22, 1933, in Temvik, ND, to John and Katherine (Bachmann) Forderer.
Melvin attended country school near Temvik where he graduated. He was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 23, serving in Germany for sixteen months. Upon his return, he moved to Linton, ND, where he met the love of his life, Donna Becker. They were united in marriage on April 27, 1963. Melvin farmed on a family farm with his father near Linton where they lived for seven years. They moved into Linton where Melvin worked various jobs, mostly construction. Melvin and Donna began raising their 5 children in Linton. In 1987, they moved to Barnesville, MN, where Melvin worked at a local electric company. He then moved to the Hitterdal area in 1990, and Ulen in 1992 on a farm until 2004. In 2004, Melvin and Donna moved to Dilworth, MN, where they have lived ever since.
Melvin enjoyed visiting family and travelling by car. Donna and Melvin would take road trips to South Dakota in the summers when they needed a quick getaway. He liked to cut wood and hunt deer with his children and play pool with his grandchildren and spent time with his grandchildren whenever he could. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife by going out for coffee in the mornings or taking or going on a trip.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna; children, Melanie (Richard Olson) Devary, Melissa (Dan Kepler) Carlson, Leah Anderson, Mel Forderer, and Mitch (Jill) Forderer; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Mosset; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Katherine; sons-in-law, James Devary and Bob Carlson; and siblings, Arthur, Burt, Johnny, and Delores.
A private family memorial service will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A livestream of the service will be available at 2:00 P.M., on his webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com where a guestbook and video tribute may also be found.
