Merle Skatvold, 86, Moorhead, MN, died on Thursday, March 4, 2010, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead. Merle was born May 27, 1923, in Ortley, SD, to Olaf and Elma Froemke Skatvold. He graduated from high school in Oklee, MN, in 1941. Merle married Helga Krogstue in Los Angeles, CA, in September of 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.He became a regional supervisor for Hart-Carter Company in Minneapolis, involved in the sale and service of grain handling equipment to country elevators in western Minnesota and the Dakotas. In 1963, he formed his own business in Moorhead, providing the same services to that industry. He retired in 1979, turning over the business to his sons, Philip and Michael. Merle's wife, Helga, died in 1985, and he then married Ida Pihlgren. Merle is survived by his wife, Ida; three sons, Paul Linda Skatvold, Philip Skatvold, Michael GaNeì Skatvold, all of Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Sovde of Bemidji, MN, and Phyllis Parsons of Edina, MN;two step-sons, Gerald, Fargo, and Phillip, Salem, Ohio; seven step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
