Merlin L. Lofgren

Merlin L. Lofgren, 77, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Elim Care and Rehab in Fargo, ND. Merlin was born May 10, 1941 to Lloyd and Lucille (Fahrlander) Lofgren. He grew up and attended school in Hitterdal, MN. In his younger days, he helped local farmers before finishing school. On July 30, 1960, Merlin married Ruth Kersting. Together they made their home in Hitterdal and started a family. Over the years, he worked in construction including starting a drywall company with his brother Curtis.  Later he started a family dairy farm and enjoyed managing Hitterdal Liquors until his retirement. Merlin was always very social and enjoyed visiting with others any chance he could. He loved his family most of all and never missed a chance to attend the children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sports. He will be dearly missed.

Merlin is survived by his children, Tomas Lofgren, Suzette (Eric) Nord, Bob (Debbie) Lofgren and Dori (Rick) Fiedler; grandchildren, Angie (Nick) Kukowski, Kassandra (Parker) Lipetzky, Kari Lofgren (Mike Roterdam), Kristina (Manny) Reyes, Erica (Nick) Evans, Joseph Nord, Amanda Nord, Andrew Nord, Zachary Lofgren, Ashley Lofgren, Cameron Lofgren, Nicholas Fiedler, Cole Fiedler, Victoria Fiedler and Noah Fiedler; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clair Lofgren, Curtis (Carolyn) Lofgren and Kevin Lofgren; sisters, Sharon Stern and Vicki Gustafson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; father, Lloyd; and mother, Lucille.

Memorial Gathering will be Wednesday, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Memorial Mass will be Thursday, at 3:00 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.

Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
