Michael Griffin

Michael “Mike” “Griff” J. Griffin, age 81, of Hawley, MN passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Michael James Griffin was born on March 6, 1940 in La Crosse, WI to Lloyd and Gladys (Nohelty) Griffin. Mike grew up in the greater Chicago area where we worked as a police officer. He moved to Fargo in the late 70’s and worked for Bell Telephone as a special high security technician until his retirement. After his retirement, Mike kept busy by working part-time for the City of Hawley as a grounds man, Ron’s/Tony’s grocery store, Walmart and Concordia College. Mike married Dale Mickley on February 14, 1987. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, playing softball and spending time with his family. He sponsored and coached “Griff’s Men’s Slow-pitch” and “Griff’s Ladies Fast-pitch”.

Mike is survived by his wife of 34 years, Dale; 5 children, Michael Jr., Patrick, Mary, Colleen and Glenn-Whitney; two stepchildren, Carol and Daniel; dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and both of his siblings.

Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice of the Red River Valley or Eventide. In memory of Mike, the family requests you plant a tree or take a child to a ballgame or fishing.
