Milton R. Opatril

Milton R. Opatril, 78, of Dilworth, MN, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Lilac Homes, Moorhead, MN. Milton was born June 1, 1939, on his grandparent’s farm near Downer, MN, to Rudolph and Marie Kluck Opatril. He grew up on the family farm north of Hawley and graduated from Hawley High School in 1957. Following high school he farmed and served in the Air National Guard. On July 29, 1961, Milton married Sandra Streed. Together they made their home in Hawley until moving to Dilworth in 1964. In 1967, he started Milton Opatril Concrete, which he owned and operated until 1989. He then worked for the City of Dilworth until retiring in 2008.

Milton most of all loved the time spent with family and friends. His grandchildren meant the world to him and many special memories were created with them camping in the teepee, letting them drive the Model T or taking them with on road trips. There was always a new experience to be had or another life lesson to learn. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and participating in black powder rendezvous with family and friends. Milton always looked forward to getting the seed catalogs in the mail as gardening and planting trees was something he enjoyed. He will most of all be remembered for his red socks that he wore for every occasion.

Milton is survived by his wife, Sandy; children: Kim Tim Boehm, Steve Theresa Opatril, Mike Tracy Opatril; grandchildren: Dana Brent Higgins, Katelin Aaron Buer, Justine Opatril, Scott Opatril, Emily Opatril, Jake Opatril, Maggie Opatril; great-granddaughter, Sophia Higgins; brothers: Richard Paulette Opatril, Duane Opatril, Merlyn Opatril; brother-in-law, Keith Gregerson; father-in-law, Robert Streed; and sister-in-law, Joanne Lowell Senechal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Marie; brother, Ron; sister, Judy Gregerson; mother-in-law, Helen Streed; and sisters-in-law and their spouses: Valene Richard Anderson, and Jackie Dale Perkins.

Visitation: Sunday, August 6, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., with prayer service at 6 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.

Funeral: Monday, August 7, at 1:00 p.m., at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN.

Interment: Lysne Lutheran Church Cemetery
