Minnie Elvina (Olson) Kjos

Minnie Elvina (Olson) Kjos, 100, died Friday, March 22, at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead. She was born October 1, 1918 in Boyd, Minnesota. She graduated from Boyd High School in 1936. In 1940 she married Byron Kjos. After his service in the military, the couple lived in Milwaukee, Lac Qui Parle Village, and Bemidji before finally settling in Moorhead in 1949.

Minnie raised two sons and was a church volunteer and Cub Scout Den Mother. She also worked as a secretary and after she and Byron retired, they started a house cleaning business.

Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Mabel Olson of Boyd; brother, Obert Olson of Boyd; her husband of more than 50 years, Byron Kjos; and her good friend Dorothy Solheim. She is survived by two sons, Richard and Roger of Moorhead; three grandsons; one great-grandson; and seven nieces and nephews.

Minnie was devoted to her family and dedicated her life to selfless service to others, putting their needs ahead of her own. In her later years she often assisted friends who were much younger than she was. She loved her church, Trinity Lutheran in Moorhead, and loved serving as a Sunday School teacher and kitchen volunteer. Despite being legally blind and battling several illnesses, she never complained.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead on Thursday, March 28, 2019. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo at a later date.
