Muriel was born August 15, 1921 at Raymond, Montana to John and Mathilda Stadstad Stewart. She attended school in Plentywood, Montana, graduating from Plentywood High School in 1939. She worked as a telephone operator for the Montana States Telephone Company from 1940 until 1945 in Plentywood and Wolf Point, Montana. She then worked for the Corps of Engineers as a telephone operator for one year. Muriel married Kenneth L. Johnson on June 20, 1945 at Wolf Point, Montana. Following their marriage they lived in Bismarck, North Dakota for six years, then moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area. She was employed as a cook for the West Fargo School for two years, and then worked in the mail order department at Sears for one year. In 1975, they moved to Hawley, MN. Kenneth died May 18, 1990. She formerly was active with the Eastern Star in Bismarck, was a member of Solem Lutheran Church and was active in band parent organization in West Fargo. Muriel enjoyed crocheting, knitting and watching sports. Muriel is survived by two sons, Ron Patricia Johnson, Washington, IA, and Randal Judy Johnson, Prior Lake, MN; two sisters, Betty Howard Lien, Salt Lake City, UT, and Jackie Bridges, Richland, WA; four grandchildren, Brett, Brady, Scott & Thomas Johnson; eleven nieces & nephews. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Floyd Stewart, one sister, June Scott and one nephew.
