Nancy L. Lomsdal

Nancy Lee Lomsdal, was a caring, happy, special, silly, beautiful woman who was so full of life and love. These words came from Grandma’s “Favorite 5” when we asked them to describe Grandma in one word.

At the young age of 61, Nancy Lomsdal of Moorhead, MN, went to Heaven peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2019 in her home surrounded by family and in the arms of her beloved husband.

Born on June 27, 1958 to Jack and Marion Hillrud, she grew up in Moorhead graduating from Moorhead High School in 1976.  Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Scott Lomsdal, on October 22, 1977.

Four years later Nancy and Scott were blessed with their first child, Katie. Motherhood was her true purpose in life. She loved it so much that in 1984, they brought their youngest child, Joe into the world. They were a family of four. They did everything together, with some of their favorite memories being at the race track, going down to the lakes, and visiting family in Mesa, Arizona.

Nancy worked at Fairway Foods from 1977-1994, and later went to work for Tharaldson Companies (TMI), from 1994-2014. She loved what she did, and enjoyed her fellow colleagues who she still kept in touch with even after her retirement.

In 2008, they were blessed with their first grandchild, Annaka Jo. For Nancy, this was just as miraculous as having her own children. Later she would receive four more. Her five grandchildren kept her going strong while she fought for the past nine years. When we asked what each one of them would miss most about grandma here is how they responded; “Her smile”, said Annaka; “How nice she was”, smiled Bennett; “Her birthday suppers!”, exclaimed Aspen; “I’m glad she doesn’t have cancer and is in Heaven”, muttered Ace; “Her hugs!” screamed Briella.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Scott Lomsdal; daughter, Katie (Brandon) Johnson and their children, Annaka, Bennett and Briella; son, Joe (Kelsey) Lomsdal and their children Aspen and Ace; sisters, Diane Beaton, Jan Endersbe and Kathy (Warren) Sidney; brother, Dave (Joy) Hillrud; sister-in-law Sandy (Mark) Maring; Shannon Schlanser; brother-in-law Steve (Kim) Lomsdal, cousins, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parent-in-laws, Doug and Margaret Lomsdal; grandparents and sister, Clo Ann.

The family would like to thank Roger Marris Cancer Center, Dr. Matthew Tinguely, and nurse Judy who fought the battle with us for the last 9 years. They were like family to Nancy.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM in the Christian Life Center of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.

Following the service and lunch, a burial will be held in Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, MN.
