Nancy Sue Sumers

Nancy (Taylor) Sumers, 88, of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home, Fargo, ND.

Nancy was born on May 13, 1935, to Donald and Adeline (Nierenhausen) Taylor in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up in Minneapolis where she attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She then moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she met Dale Sumers. They were united in marriage on August 6, 1955, at Canoga Park, CA. They moved to Yuba City, CA,where they started raising a family. The family moved from Yuba City, CA to San Jose, CA, to Roswell, NM, and eventually settled in West Fargo, ND. Nancy spent many years working as the regional manager for 7-11 convenience stores in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. She retired in 1997 and moved with Dale to their home on Lake Emma near Park Rapids, MN. After Dale’s passing, she moved to Moorhead, MN, to be closer to her family.

Nancy’s passions were her family, her church and serving others.  She was extremely proud of her family  and loved spending time with them whenever possible.  Many beautiful family memories were made at the lake home she shared with Dale.  Her church and her faith led her to a lifelong love of stewardship and helping anyone in need.  She had a passion for taking care of people, which resulted in making friends wherever she went.

Nancy is survived by her children, Matt (Becky) Sumers, Leslie (Thomas) Carriveau, Joseph (Cindy) Sumers, Cathy (Tim) Lunde, Susan Ridgway, Julie (Benjamin) McKee, and Thomas (Stephanie) Sumers; grandchildren, Sarah (Greg) Brandt and Naomi (Ben) Passe, Jenni Carriveau, Christine (Dave) Scherr, Brian Carriveau, Nancy (Caleb Johnson) Carriveau, and Megan (Marco) Rodriguez, Cassandra Sumers, Joseph (Molly) Sumers, Ryan Sumers, Alexis Sumers, and Joshua (Jenna) Frost, Mary Lunde, Sally Lunde, and John (Heidi) Lunde, Jessica (Joshua) Schindeldecker and Scott Ridgway, Olivia McKee and Mallory McKee, Thomas Sumers, Mitchell (Kayley) Quinton, and Jake (Macy) Quinton; 22 great- grandchildren; and her siblings, Ione Cecka and Richard (Diane) Taylor.
