Nathan Selmer Simon Smith, 30, of Moorhead, MN, journeyed to the spirit world on December 12, 2021. He will be greatly missed.
Nathan enjoyed his music, family, and friends. He was enrolled in Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe and loved his culture. His father, Luke, taught him all about it. Luke passed away April 3, 2020, and Nathan really struggled with his father’s passing. Nathan was Dakota when Luke passed. They had just started the 38 + 2 Memorial Ride on December 10th and ended on the 26th for their ancestors.
Nate is preceded in death by his father, Luke James Smith; grandparents, Patty and Gerry Hanson; uncle, Moose Lenord Smith; nieces, Christina LaCroix, Amitola LaCroix, and Jazzlyn Lovin.
He is survived by his mother, Melissa Engesetter; brother, David Smith DeAndre LaCroix; children, Michael and Nathaniel Smith and their mother, Amy Jo St. John; special friend, Amanda; siblings, Chris, Samantha, and Lance Lovin; grandparents, Sheyanne Decheneaux, Josphine Haggenstad, and Curtis Hill; uncles, Greg Olson, Brad Olson, Lorenzo Manyribs, Mike LaCroix, Sorelle LaCroix Ciprain, and Nate Aarseth Sierra Haagensted; aunts, Dorothy Russle, Irean Castanon, Christina Smith, Harriette LaCroix, and Michele LaCroix; and many more grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews Smith, White, Hill, LaCroix, Engesetter, Eddy, and Olson
A Native American Service with a Drum and stories of Nathans life will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 1:00 PM with a visitation one hour before the service at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
