Nevada I. Softing

Nevada I. Softing, age 81, of Hawley, MN, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.Nevada Iona Bratlien was born on March 23, 1929, to Oscar and Sophie Larson Bratlien in Parke Township. She attended rural school District #109 along with her two sisters and brother. On May 14, 1947, she married Orvis Softing at the Hawley Parsonage in Hawley, MN. Together they purchased a farmstead in 1957, in Parke Township where they farmed for 45 years. In 1969, they built a new home on the farm. In 1991, Orvis and Nevada sold the farm and moved to Hawley. Orvis passed away in October, 2003. Nevada continued to live in her home until May, 2009, when she moved to the Hawley Senior Living Center.Nevada was an excellent seamstress and sewed for many people in the Hawley area and elsewhere. She sewed bridal wear for numerous weddings over the years. She was a member of Grong Free Lutheran Church and also a member of Prairie Skyline Homemakers for many years.She is survived by, one brother, Don Joanne Bratlien of Moorhead, MN, two sisters, Arla Bjorndahl of Kingman, AZ and DeEtt Allen of Crossville, TN and many cousins, nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant brother and grandparents.
