Nora J. Koenig

Nora J. Koenig, 84, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at home under the care of family and Sanford Hospice. Nora was born August 10, 1935, in Bottineau, ND, to Frank and Hazel Ormberg. She was the tenth child in the family of twelve (six boys and six girls). Nora was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Following graduation from Bottineau High School, she enrolled in the St. Andrew’s School of Nursing, Bottineau, graduating RN cum laude. Nora worked as a registered nurse in Bottineau, Minot, and Fargo, retiring in 1998. Nora married Gerald (“Jerry”) Koenig on July 10, 1965, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. They have two daughters, Jeanine and Lisa.

Nora had been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving in the Mission Workshop, TLCW, Circle, Bible Study Group, and the Funeral Serving Group. She loved gardening and had been a member of the Fine Arts Garden Club and the Northern Plains Botanical Garden Society. She was also a member of a Hardanger needlework group.

Nora and Jerry loved to travel, among their highlights was their family heritage trip to Southern Sweden and Germany.

Nora is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughters, Jeanine (John) Balbach of Kensington, MD, Lisa (Joe) Dunn of Wilmore, KS; grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Balbach, and Emma and Keith Dunn. She is also survived by her sisters, Joyce Hell, Eleanor (Tom) English, and Carol (Ken) Erickson; her sister-in-law’s, Rose Marie Ormberg, Rosie Ormberg, and Mary Lou Ormberg; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Walter, Franklin, Roy, Hubert, Otto, and Eugene Ormberg; and sisters, Betty Ann Strand and Marguerite Ormberg.

The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at the Roger Maris Cancer Center and Sanford Hospice for their loving care of Nora.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 9, at 2:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 10, at Page Cemetery, Page, ND.
