Norma E. Sussex

Funeral services for Norma Sussex will be held at the Eventide Nursing Home Chapel in Moorhead on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Chaplain Stephen Streed of Eventide and Pastor Ernest Stadum of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial services will be conducted at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in St. Louis, MO by Pastor Robert Banit of St. Mark's Lutheran Church followed by a fellowship hour at the church. Norma Eleanor Thorn Sussex died Monday, August. 29, 2004, at 96 years of age. She was born at her grandparents home near Jessie, ND, Feb. 27, l908 to Julius and Clara Hitterdahl Thorn. She lived and attended school for eleven years in Binford, ND, and graduated from Cooperstown High School in l926. She graduated from UND in l930 where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority, recently recognized by their national organization as their oldest member. Norma taught English at the Hope High School for two years. She married Eugene W Sussex December26, l93l and they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary before his death in l995. Their only child, Carol Jean, died in l965. They lived in Oakes, and Valley City in ND before a short period during WW2 in Arlington, VA. They moved to St. Louis in l947 where they lived for 54 years. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where she was known for her artistic skills as well as her cooking and baking. She was a member of the Monday Club in Webster Groves for over 50 years. In l997 Norma moved to the Heritage House in Fargo and after 4 years moved to the Eventide Catered Living Center in Moorhead. Norma is survived by her sister, Harriet Wangberg, Moorhead, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorials can be made to Luther Theological Seminary, Eventide, Hospice of the RRV or your choice.
