Norma Merilyn Lively

Norma Merilyn Lively, 88, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019, in Lilac Homes Memory Care of Moorhead, MN. Norma was born May 12, 1930 in Richland County, ND, to Elder and Annie (Kjelland) Helling. Norma was raised on the farm and went to school in Walcott, ND. She attended Interstate Business School.

Norma married William (Bill) Hoyt Lively on November 27, 1949, in Walcott, ND. They made their home in Moorhead, MN. Bill was drafted into the army and they moved to Fort Riley, KS. Later they returned to Moorhead and started Skippy Construction. Norma did the books for the company. Norma also worked at the Ford Motor Company and the ND Agronomy Office, she was a comptometer operator.

Norma and Bill enjoyed spending many years at their homes on Big McDonald Lake, Dent, MN. Later they spent their winters in Mesa, AZ, and then back in Moorhead, MN, for their summers.

Norma loved entertaining friends and family with card and dice games. She enjoyed sewing club, golf outings and family at their lake home and especially enjoyed their grandchildren’s visits. They were often seen getting tractor rides, swimming in the lake and fishing with them. The grandchildren spent time practicing their golf swings at the lake with an occasional trip to the course with Grandma and Grandpa. Their time spent in Arizona was spent being very active with golfing leagues. Norma had the skill in golfing to achieve two hole in ones.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, William Hoyt Lively; parents, Elder and Annie; sisters, Lorene (Tissy) Sorlie, Arlene Clemenson; and Brother, Loren (Bussie) Helling.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Lynda Fortier of West Fargo, ND; son, Robert (Rosanne) Lively; grandchildren; Zachary and Lisa Lively of Fargo, ND; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. – 1:45 P.M., followed by a time of sharing at 1:45 P.M., before the memorial service at 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 22, 2019, at Hope Lutheran Church, South, Fargo, ND. Burial of ashes will be at a later date.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Lilac Homes Memory Care of Moorhead, MN, for the exceptional care given to Norma during her stay.
