Norman Elmer Nelson was born on February 10, 1924, in Glyndon, Minnesota, to Ernest and Minnie Olson Nelson. He attended District #2 country school and Lake Park High School , graduating in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy and then attended the Institutional On-Farm Training Class at the Detroit Lakes High School. Norman married DeLoyne Eilertsonon April 4, 1947 at the Lake Park Lutheran Church parsonage. They purchased the farm in 1949 and he lived there the rest of his life. He cherished his time with family and friends, and his passions were family, farming and playing cards. Norman was a member of the Lake Park American Legion, served on the selective service system, the Lake Park Elevator Board and was active in Strandvik Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rollie and Arvid; three brothers-in-law, Bud Tufton, Harvey Olson and Jerain Eilertson; and one son-in-law, Charles Erickson. Norman is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, DeLoyne; two daughters, Diane Levin and Bonnie Erickson; three sons, Kevan Nancy Nelson, Curt Barb Nelson, and Barry Jamie Nelson; two sisters, Myrt Tufton and DorothyOlson; three sisters-inlaw, Kelly Eilertson, Norma Nelson and Marlys Nelson; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
