Norm Overby, 88, Moorhead, MN, died on November 11, 2006, in the Pelican Valley Nursing, Pelican Rapids, MN, where he had lived for the past year.Norm was born in Moorhead, MN, on March 16, 1918, the son of Nels and Albina Overby, and he spent his younger years working on his father's vegetable farm on land which is now south Moorhead.In 1940 he married Marge Carlson, also of Moorhead. Shortly after they married Norm was sent to Europe to fight in World War II. He landed on Normandy three days after D-Day and also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He often spoke of the strong impact of going into and liberating concentration camps in GermanyIn 1947, after returning from the war, Marge and Norm founded Town and Country Flowers in Moorhead and they both worked in the business until it was sold in 1981. They then retired to their home on Pelican Lake while spending winters in Harlingen, TX.Norm is survived by his daughter, Carlee Bud Meyer; and one sister, Helen Picotte, Minot, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and an infant daughter.
