Norman L. Olthoff

Norman Lee Olthoff, age 90, of Moorhead, Mn passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, at his home in Moorhead. 

Norman was born in Breckenridge, MN on January 11, 1934, to Christian and Pauline (DeFries) Olthoff. Norm grew up in Doran, MN and graduated from Breckenridge High School with the class of 1953. Following graduation, Norman served in the US Army. He served in the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955. After serving in the Korean Conflict, he moved to Thief River Falls, MN where he was an assistant manager at Red Owl.

It was in Thief River Falls where he met his future wife Donna Jean Broe. They were married on June 8, 1957, in Glendive, MT. Norm then started college at Moorhead State and achieved his teaching degree. Norman prided himself on being the first child in his family to graduate from college. He was a teacher for the Moorhead School District for 33 years and retired in 1995. After retirement, Norman and Donna would spend the winter months in Destin, FL. This was a place they dearly loved and enjoyed spending their time with friends. In the summers, he loved spending time out at Ottertail Lake with his family and his grandchildren. Norm was a member of the American Legion Post 21 and the VFW Post 1223 in Moorhead.

Norman will be dearly missed by family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife, Donna of Moorhead, MN; children, Kyle Olthoff, Moorhead, MN and Lisa (Brad) Bergstrom, Sauk Rapids, MN; 5 grandchildren, Kaeden, Brennan, and Kylinn Olthoff of Moorhead, Breonna (Jake) Clark of Blaine, MN and Hannah (Cody) Cossette of Farmington, MN; great grandchildren, Chloe Clark and Isaac Cossette; and brother, Alvin (Pat) Olthoff of Buffalo, MN. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Pauline Olthoff; father and mother-in-law, Selmer and Evelyn Broe; brothers, Henry Olthoff, Lester Olthoff, Earl Olthoff; and sisters, Margaret Gowin, Delores Barth and June Nelson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM with a visitation one hour before the service at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
