Norman Norm Richard Seim was born to Anton and Johanna LeGrand Seim in Pelican Rapids, MN on April 29, 1919. Norm graduated from high school in Pelican Rapids in 1938. In 1941, Norm graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College, Moorhead, MN with an elementary education degree. He taught school in rural Pelican Rapids before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and he proudly served in the South Pacific as a 1st Sergeant and 1st Lieutenant. Norm returned in 1946 and joined the North Dakota Air National Guard, Fargo, ND. Norm was united in marriage to Helen J. Seljevold on June 16, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. They made their home in Fargo, ND while Norm attended and graduated from North Dakota Agricultural College now NDSU in 1950 with a degree in industrial engineering. He was employed by the college as Assistant Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds from 1951 ? 1957. The family moved and made their home in Moorhead where Norm taught elementary school for a year. In 1962, he returned to NDSU as Director of Housing until his retirement in 1984. The West High Rise dormitory was renamed Seim Hall affectionately nicknamed Norm's Dorm by his family at his retirement party.Norm and Helen enjoyed their summers at their Lake Sybil, Vergas, MN cabin and wintered some months in Texas. He was a loving and proud husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Norm was also a member of the Fargo American Legion, Pelican Rapids VFW, and The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. His interests included automotive and mechanical "stuff", dogs, Fords, the NDSU Bison, his grandchildren's sports and activities, traveling, picture taking and building the family cabin.Norm is survived by his wife Helen, Moorhead, MN; 3 sons, Richard Linda Seim, Bedford, TX and their children, Grady, Laura and her fiance Jeremy Brown, Anton and Sarah, Ronald Susan Seim, Plymouth, MN and their children, Danielle, Lindsay and Nathan, and Robert Mavis Seim, Fargo, ND and their children, Tyrel Lindsay Seim their daughter Grace and Angela; one daughter, Barbara Gregg Morlock, Moorhead, MN and their children Grant and Quinn. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lillian and John Knutson, and nephews Patrick Huber and Thomas Seljevold. Memorials may be sent to either the North Dakota State University Alumni Foundation or The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
