Norman Selmer Swenson was born on March 29, 1918, to Engebricht "Ed" and Katherine Weum Swenson near Flom, MN. He grew up on the family farm. Norman worked for neighbors and farmed with his brother for one year. He then worked at Firestone in Fargo, vulcanizing tires during WWII. After that, Norman resumed farming with his brother for another two years before beginning a cream route in Lake Park. On January 1, 1946, he married Arlene M. Wright. Together they lived in Lake Park. Later they moved to Moorhead and soon thereafter, moved to Dilworth, where they have resided since 1956. Norman worked for Tallman Oil Company for about eight years before he worked as a custodian at the Dilworth School, Concordia College and Moorhead State University before retiring in the early 1970's. Norman was a member of the church board at Dilworth Lutheran Church. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards and fishing.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Arlene Swenson of Dilworth, MN; son, Richard Beverly Swenson of Moorhead, MN; daughter-in-law, Christine Swenson of Moorhead, MN; three grandchildren, David Jamie Swenson, Dean Jodi Stoa Swenson and Dawn Swenson; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Swenson; eight brothers and sisters and parents.
