Norris was born August 6, 1922, in Hawley, Minnesota to Gustav and Martina Bratlien Grefsrud. He grew up and attended rural country school near Hawley. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. Norris married Muriel Nelson on April 14, 1951 in Hawley, MN. Following their marriage they farmed near Hawley, MN. He was employed in sales at Lakes Livestock, did carpentry work at UBC, drove truck for the Hawley Elevator and also worked at the beet piling station. Norris enjoyed anything that had to do with farming. He especially liked watching things grow. Norris enjoyed playing horseshoe, bowling, gardening and quilting. Norris and Muriel made nearly 1,000 quilts that were donated to various causes such as Churches United, Dorothy Day House and WIC. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jim; two brothers, Orville and Vernon Grefsrud; and two sisters, Mamie Peterson and Thelma Peterson. Norris is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Muriel Grefsrud, Hawley, MN; one son, Wayne Edie Grefsrud, Fargo, ND; one daughter, Carolyn Bob Tepe, Germantown, WI; three brothers, Raymond Joan Grefsrud, Hawley, MN, Earl Priscilla Grefsrud, Sedona, AZ, and Ardean Adele Grefsrud, Cascade, ID; five sisters, Lorraine Grefsrud, Fargo, ND, Ardell Robert Nelson, Helena, MT, Glenda David Bengtson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Wanda Carl Erickson, Hitterdal, MN and Myrtle Olson, Detroit Lakes, MN; one sister-in-law, Joanne Grefsrud; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
