Olai Ray Heden

Olai R. Heden, age 95, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.

Olai Ray Heden was born on June 2, 1922 to Ernest and Rhoday (Thompson) Heden in Thief River Falls, MN. After school, Olai went into the Army Air Force in 1942 where he was an Air Force mechanic in World War II. After his time served, he worked construction for many years before retiring with Swedberg Construction. He was proud to have built his own house on Leaf Lake in Audubon, MN. Over the years, Olai faced loss three times when he lost Bernice, Marcella, and was widowed from Lois.

Olai enjoyed rockwork and he was talented at building fireplaces and rock walls. He could make or fix anything! In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with family, and setting up at flea markets.

Olai is survived by two sons, Ernie and Doyle Heden; nine stepchildren; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

The family will be holding a service at Emmanuel Nursing Home on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1:00PM. Burial will take place at a later date.
